I have nothing against opera in general. I even enjoy "The Magic Flute," upon occasion. However, when it fails to serve it's purpose, I can't help but feel a little anger. Let me back up a little. Ashton stopped taking naps at the end of last year. Mommy was very sad. On Easter, Ashton was tired, so when we got home from church (about 12:15), we decided he could watch a show to relax. Well, he insisted on watching PBS, even though we told him there are no cartoons on the weekends. As it happened there was an Oritorio or something like that on. Lo and behold, a few minutes of Oritorio viewing, and he was fast asleep. A few weeks later, General Conference sunday, there was a special on Jesus on in between the sessions. Ashton wanted to watch it, so we let him. Soon, he fell asleep. This week when we got home from church, there was an opera on. We crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. After ten or fifteen minutes, Ashton came running into our bedroom, and said, "Mommy, on my singing show there is a big boy, and they are chasing him." My heart sank. I knew if he was that interested, he wouldn't sleep. Therefore, our Sunday nap is no more, and Ashton has discovered the joys of opera.
Gilbert started teething last week, poor baby. He has four teeth now, and I'm sure he'll have more in a few weeks. Meanwhile, he spends several hours of the day screaming and biting his fingers. I have offered him something else to bite, but he generally prefers his little cute fingers. Today we gave him teething tablets, teething gel, and tylenol. That seemed to help after a little while. Poor little guy, I hope it stops soon. I bet it won't though, he seems to be uncomfortable for several weeks before he has teeth pop through.
